I. All questions are compulsory.

II. This question paper contains 14 questions divided into four Sections A, B, C and D.

III. Section A has 5 questions of 1 mark each. Section B has 4 questions of 2 marks each. Section C has 3 questions of 3 marks each. and Section D has 2 questions of 4 marks each.

IV. Use of Calculators is not permitted.

**In Questions 1 to 5, there are four options, out of which one is correct. Write the correct answer.**

1: The like terms in 3x (3 β 2y) and 2 (xy + x^{2}) are

6. Find:

7. Classify into monomials, binomials and trinomials.

(i) 4y β 7z (ii) y^{2} (iii) x + y β xy (iv) 100

8. State whether a given pair of terms is of like or unlike terms.

(i) 1, 100 (ii) β7x, 52x (iii) β 29x, β 29y (iv) 14xy, 42yx

9. Get the algebraic expressions in the following cases using variables, constants and arithmetic operations

(i) Subtraction of z from y.

(ii) One-half of the sum of numbers x and y.

**Section β C**

10. Simplify combining like terms:

(i) 21b β 32 + 7b β 20b

(ii) β z2 + 13z 2 β 5z + 7z 3 β 15z

(iii) p β (p β q) β q β (q β p)

11. Subtract: (i) β5y^{2} from y^{2}

(ii) 6xy from β12xy

(iii) (a β b) from (a + b)

12. If m = 2, find the value of:

(i) m β 2 (ii) 3m β 5 (iii) 9 β 5m

13. (a) From the sum of 2y^{2} + 3yz, β y^{2} β yz β z^{2} and yz + 2z^{2} , subtract the sum of 3y^{2} β z^{2} and βy^{2} + yz + z^{2} .

(b) Subtract the sum of β 3x^{3}y^{2} + 2x^{2}y^{3} and β 3x^{2}y^{3} β 5y^{4} from x^{4} + x^{3} y^{2} + x^{2}y^{3} + y^{4}.

14. Find the values of the following polynomials at a = β 2 and b = 3:

(a) a^{2} + 2ab + b^{2} (b) a^{2} β 2ab + b^{2}

(c) a^{3} + 3a^{2}b + 3ab^{2} + b^{3} (d) a^{3} β 3a^{2}b + 3ab^{2} β b^{3}
